This notebook documents my understanding of the digital preservation field, and of the players and standards involved. The Wikipedia page on Digital Preservation provides quite a good overview of the field, but the intention of this notebook is to dig somewhat deeper into the problem.

This notebook does not really deal with some of the wider issues, like digital preservation in the sense of preserving physical objects in a digital form, or preserving digital hardware itself. More importantly, it does not explore preservation planning issues like working out how preservation policies and strategies should be determined. Here, we are focussed more on specific information and technical issues related to digital object preservation that would facilitate the formulation and execution of such strategies.
